INTRODUCTION

Nelson Mandela was a civil rights leader in South Africa. He fought against apartheid, a system where non-white citizens were segregated from whites and did not have equal rights. He served a good portion of his life in prison for his protests, but became a symbol for his people. Later he would become president of South Africa.

EARLY LIFE

Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 in Mvezo, South Africa. His birth name is Rolihlahla. He got the nickname Nelson from a teacher in school. Nelson was a member of Thimbu royalty and his father was chief of the city of Mvezo. He attended school and later college at the College of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand. At Witwatersrand, Mandela got his law degree and would meet some of his fellow activists against apartheid.

WHAT DID MANDELA DO?

Nelson Mandela became a leader in the African National Congress (ANC). At first he pushed hard for the congress and the protesters to follow Mohandas Gandhi's non-violence approach. At one point he started to doubt that this approach would work and started up an armed branch of the ANC. He planned to bomb certain buildings, but only the buildings. He wanted to make sure that no one would be hurt. He was classified as a terrorist by the South African government and sent to prison.
Mandela would spend the next 27 years in prison. His prison sentence brought international visibility to the anti-apartheid movement. He was finally released through international pressure in 1990.

AFTER RELEASED FROM PRISON

Once released from prison, Nelson continued his campaign to end apartheid. His hard work and life long effort paid off when all races were allowed to vote in the 1994 election. Nelson Mandela won the election and became president of South Africa. There were several times during the process where violence threatened to break out. Nelson was a strong force in keeping the calm and preventing a major civil war.

IN PRISON

The Little Red Riding Hood

Image result for little red riding hood illustration

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who was loved by everyone who looked at her. But, the one who loved the little girl the most was her grandmother. There was nothing that she wouldn’t have given to the child. On the other day, she gave her a red velvet riding hood, which suited her so well that she would never wearing anything else. So, the little girl was always called ‘Little Red Riding Hood’.
But, one day, her grandmother got sick. Little Red Riding Hood’s Mother told her to visit her lovely grandmother.
*At Little Red Riding Hood’s house*
Mother                                    :”Oh, my dear child. Can you come here for a bit?”
Little Red Riding Hood            : (Approach her mother) “Is there anything I can help you with, Mother?”
Mother                                    :”Your grandmother is ill and weak right now. Here is a piece of cake and a bottle of wine. Take them to your grandmother. They will make her feel good.  You wouldn’t mind delivered these to your grandmother, right?”
Little Red Riding Hood            : (Smiles happily) ”Of course I wouldn’t mind! Actually, I’m so happy right now because I will visit grandmother’s house! It has been a long time since the last I saw her.”
Mother                                    : (Feel relief) ”That’s good then. You should go before midday. Here is a piece of cake and a bottle of wine. They will make her feel better. When you're going, walk nicely and quietly. Don't run off the path! Or you may fall and break the bottle. Then, your grandmother will get nothing. When you enter her house, don't forget to say,'Good morning!' And don't peep into every corner before you greeted your grandmother."
Little Red Riding Hood            : (Take the cake and wine) “Okay, Mother. I’ll listen to your advice and take a great care.”
Mother                                    : “Be careful on your way, my daughter.” (hug Little Red Riding Hood)
Little Red Riding Hood            : (hug back) “Don’t worry, Mother. Then, I’m off!”
Her house and her grandmother’s house were separated with the wood. When she entered the wood, she met a wolf. She didn’t know what a wicked creature he was and wasn’t afraid at all.
Wolf                                        : “Good day, Little Red Riding Hood!”
Little Red Riding Hood            : “Thank you, Kindly Wolf.”
Wolf                                        : “Whither away so early, Little Red Riding Hood?”
Little Red Riding Hood            : “To my grandmother’s.”
Wolf                                        : “What have you got in your apron?”
Little Red Riding Hood            : “Cake and wine. Yesterday was baking day, so poor sick grandmother is to have something good to make her stronger.”
Wolf                                        : ”Where does your grandmother live, Little Red Riding Hood?”
Little Red Riding Hood            : “At the edge across of this wood. Her house stands under the three large oak trees and the nut trees are just below. You surely must know it.”
Wolf                                        : (Think to himself) ‘What a tender young creature! What a nice plump lip! She will be better food than the old woman. I must act slyly so I can catch both of them.” (Walk more closely to Little Red Riding Hood) “Look at those flowers, Little Red Riding Hood! All of those flowers are pretty, aren’t they? Why don’t you try to look around? You will hear how sweetly the little birds are singing!”
Little Red Riding Hood            : (Raise her eyes and look at her environment and think to herself) ‘Hmmm… Maybe I suppose to take a fresh nosegay for grandmother. That would please her. It’s still early day and I still get to grandmother’s house before the night comes.’ (Run to the wood to look for flower)

Wolf                                        : (Smirk) “Hihihi… She fell for my trap. I should go to her grandmother’s house before she get there!” (Leave Little Red Riding Hood alone)
The wolf ran straight to Little Red Riding Hoods’ Grandmother’s House and knocked at the door.
*At Little Red Riding Hoods’ Grandmother’s House*
Wolf                                        : (Knock the door)
Grandmother                          : (Answer the knock from her room) “Who is there?”
Wolf                                        : (Pretend to be Little Red Riding Hood) “It’s me, Grandmother! Your lovely grandchild, Little Red Riding Hood!”
Grandmother                          : “Oh!!! It’s you, my darling!”
Wolf                                        : “I’m bringing cake and wine for you. Could you open the door, please?”
Grandmother                          : “I’m sorry, sweetheart. I’m too weak and can’t get up from the bed to open the door for you. You could just lift the latch on the door, darling.”
Wolf                                        : (Lift the latch and get in) “Sorry, old granny. But I’m not your lovely grandchildren.” (eat Grandmother)
Grandmother                          : “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!” (scream loudly and have eaten by wolf)
Wolf                                        : (Put on Grandmother’s clothes) “Now, I just have to wait until my most delicious meal come” (Lay on grandmother’s bed)
*At Wood*
Little Red Riding Hood            : ”I think it is enough!” (carry so many flowers) “I should go now before night comes. I can’t wait to see grandmother’s surprise face and her happy face when receive those flowers!” (giggle happily and go to her grandmother’s house)
When she arrived, she was surprised to find her grandmother’s house’s door opened. When she went to her grandmother’s room, she had a strange feeling.
Little Red Riding Hood            : ‘What’s wrong with me? I’m feeling uneasy today. Usually I’m so happy when visiting grandmother’s house.’ (Think to herself) “Good morning, Grandmother!” (Receive no answer) ‘It’s weird…’ (Approach her grandmother’s bed and draw the curtain)

Wolf                                        : “Hello, my sweatheart! I really miss you!” (Pretend to be grandmother and speak with weak voice)
Little Red Riding Hood            : “Grandmother! Are you alright?” (Hug the wolf)
Wolf                                        : (Hug back) “I’m far more better because you come here, my dear”
Little Red Riding Hood          : ‘She looks strange.’ (Think to herself) “Oh, Grandmother! What a big ears you have!”
Wolf                                        : “All to hear your beautiful voice better, my dear.”
Little Red Riding Hood            : “But, Grandmother, what a big eyes you have!”
Wolf                                        : “All to see you pretty face more clearly, sweatheart!”
Little Red Riding Hood            : “Grandmother, what a large hands you have!”
Wolf                                        : “All the better to hug you with.”
Little Red Riding Hood            : “But, Grandmother! What a big mouth and teeths you have!”
Wolf                                        : “All the better to eat you with.” (Grab Little Red Riding Hood’s body and eat her)
Little Red Riding Hood            : “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!”
Wolf                                        : “I’m so full! I feel so sleepy… I better get some sleep!” (close his eyes and start to snore)
The wolf started to sleep and snored really loud. Then, accidentally, the huntsman was passing by and heard the wolf’s snore.
Huntsman                                : “What a loud snore does the grandmother has! I think she need something. I better check her out.” (Approach Grandmother’s house and go inside) ‘Huh!? It’s wolf! I finally find you, Old Sinner!’ (Take his riffle and ready to shoot, but pause in the middle) ‘Wait a minute! There’s maybe a chance that the wolf had eaten the grandmother. I still can save her.’ (Take the scissor nearest and cut open the wolf’s stomach)
When he made two snipped, he saw the Little Red Riding Hood Shining. Then, he made two snipped again and Little Red Riding Hood came out. After that, her grandmother also came out too in tight chest condition.
Little Red Riding Hood            : “Ah, how frightened I have been! How dark was inside the wolf!” (feel relieved) ‘I think I’ve a great idea!’
Grandmother                          : (Come out) “Hah… Hah… Hah…” (Breathless)
Little Red Riding Hood            : (Go out and fetch some stone and then put them in wolf’s belly)
Huntsman                                : (Sew the wolf’s stomach) “Let’s wait outside.” (The three of them go outside)

When the wolf woke up, he tried to run, chased the Little Red Riding Hood, Grandmother, and Huntsman. Because the stones were too heavy, he got slowly and slowy and finally died. Huntsman took the wolf’s skin. Grandmother took the wine and ate the cake. Little Red Riding Hood was happy. She told to herself that she would never disobey again her mother’s advice. They finally lived peacefully in the end.

Kaaba

 Image result

Fast update, guys! I would like to tell you about Kaaba.

The Kaaba (Arabicالكعبة‎‎ al-Kaʿbah IPA: [alˈkaʕba], "The Cube") also referred as Al Kaaba Al Musharrafah (The Holy Kaaba), is a building at the center of Islam's most sacred mosqueAl-Masjid al-Haram, in Meccaal-HejazSaudi Arabia. It is the most sacred Muslim site in the world. It is considered the "House of Allah". Wherever they are in the world, Muslims are expected to face the Kaaba when performing salat (prayer). From any point in the world, the direction facing the Kaaba is called the qibla.

MASJID AL-HARAM

The sanctuary around the Kaaba is called Al-Masjid al-Haram (Sacred Mosque). The Masjid al-Ḥarām (Arabicالمسجد الحرام‎‎, literally "the sacred mosque"), also called the Sacred Mosque, and the Grand Mosque or Great Mosque of Mecca, is the largest mosque in the world and surrounds Islam's holiest place, the Kaaba, in the city of MeccaSaudi Arabia.

AL-HEJAZ

Image result for al hejaz

Al-Hejaz, also Al-Hijaz (Arabicالحجاز‎‎, al-Ḥiǧāz, literally “the Barrier”), is a region in the west of present-day Saudi Arabia. The region is so called as it separates the land of the Najd in the east from the land of Tihamahin the west. It is also known as the “Western Province.” It is bordered on the west by the Red Sea, on the north by Jordan, on the east by the Najd, and on the south by Asir. Its main city is Jeddah, but it is probably better known for the Islamic holy cities of Mecca and Medina

MECCA

Image result for mecca map

Mecca (/ˈmɛkə/) or Makkah (Arabicمكة‎‎ Makkah) is a city in the Hejaz in Saudi Arabia. It is the capital of that kingdom's Makkah RegionAs the alleged birthplace of Muhammad and the site of Muhammad's first revelation of the Quran (specifically, a cave 3 km (2 mi) from Mecca), Mecca is regarded as the holiest city in the religion of Islam and a pilgrimage to it known as the Hajj isobligatory for all able Muslims. Mecca is home to the Kaaba, by majority description Islam's holiest site, as well as being thedirection of Muslim prayer

PARTS OF KAABA

  1. Al-Ħajaru al-Aswad, "the Black Stone", is located on the Kaaba's eastern corner. Its northern corner is known as the Ruknu l-ˤĪrāqī, "the Iraqi corner", its western as the Ruknu sh-Shāmī, "the Levantine corner", and its southern as Ruknu l-Yamanī, "the Yemeni corner". The four corners of the Kaaba roughly point toward the four cardinal directions of the compass. Its major (long) axis is aligned with the rising of the star Canopustoward which its southern wall is directed, while its minor axis (its east-west facades) roughly align with the sunrise of summer solstice and the sunset of winter solstice.
  2. The entrance is a door set 2.13 m (7 ft) above the ground on the north-eastern wall of the Kaaba, which acts as the façade. In 1979 the 300 kg gold doors made by chief artist Ahmad bin Ibrahim Badr, replaced the old silver doors made by his father, Ibrahim Badr in 1942. There is a wooden staircase on wheels, usually stored in the mosque between the arch-shaped gate of Banū Shaybah and the Zamzam Well.
  3. Meezab-i Rahmat, rainwater spout made of gold. Added in the rebuilding of 1627 after the previous year's rain caused three of the four walls to collapse.
  4. Gutter, added in 1627 to protect the foundation from groundwater.
  5. Hatim (also romanized as hateem), a low wall originally part of the Kaaba. It is a semi-circular wall opposite, but not connected to, the north-west wall of the Kaaba known as the hatīm. This is 90 cm (35 in) in height and 1.5 m (4.9 ft) in width, and is composed of white marble. At one time the space lying between the hatīm and the Kaaba belonged to the Kaaba itself, and for this reason it is not entered during the tawaf.
  6. Al-Multazam, the roughly 2 meter space along the wall between the Black Stone and the entry door. It is sometimes considered pious or desirable for a hajji to touch this area of the Kaaba, or perform dua here.
  7. The Station of Abraham (Maqam Ibrahim), a glass and metal enclosure with what is said to be an imprint of Abraham's feet. Abraham is said to have stood on this stone during the construction of the upper parts of the Kaaba, raising Ismail on his shoulders for the uppermost parts.
  8. Corner of the Black Stone (East).
  9. Corner of Yemen (South-West). Pilgrims traditionally acknowledge a large vertical stone that forms this corner.
  10. Corner of Syria (North-West).
  11. Corner of Iraq (North-East). This inside corner, behind a curtain, contains the Babut Taubah, Door of Repentance, which leads to a staircase to the roof.
  12. Kiswah, the embroidered covering. Kiswa is a black silk and gold curtain which is replaced annually during the Hajj pilgrimage. Two-thirds of the way up is a band of gold-embroidered Quranic text, including the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith.
  13. Marble stripe marking the beginning and end of each circumambulation.
  14. The station of Gabriel.

That's all brief information about Kaaba! See you on my next post, guys!

Sincerely,

Prince Rai
